MILFORD - The Friends of the Milford Upper
Charles Trail recently received a $2,500
donation from the Harmon Foundation.
Anne and Barnes McNevin, of the Harmon
Foundation and Milford residents, were
responsible for suggesting to the foundation
the Friends get the donation.
The Upper Charles Trail would be approximately
27 miles long and would run from the Downtown
Framingham Commuter Rail Station, through
Sherborn, Holliston, Milford, Hopkinton
and Ashland and back to Framingham. The
Milford segment, named Milford Upper Charles
Trail, will be approximately 6.4 miles
long and run through Milford from the Holliston
town line to the Hopkinton town line. Phase
1 is complete, with 3.4 miles stretching
from the commuter parking lot on Main Street
across from Sacred Heart and traveling
north to Deer Street just north of Interstate
495.
The donation would help offset costs for
things such as doggie clean-up areas, more
signs along the trail and a grand opening
celebration in June.
The Harmon Foundation was founded by William
E. Harmon in 1928. The descendants of Harmon
now meet once a year to allocate funds
for deserving causes. They are interested
in donating seed money to organizations
so they can further their cause, interest,
or talent which in turn benefits their
community. Also, funds are available for
groups whose prime directive is to help
others in need, whether for food, housing,
safety, education or medical research.
“The Friends of the Milford Upper
Charles Trail provides such potential for
the community by helping develop and support
an already popular walkway/bike trail and
preserving town property for all to use,” said
Anne McNevin. “It is our privilege
to support this organization which is filled
with so many dedicated and knowledgeable
individuals and to continue to do so in
the future.”
