The Friends of the Milford Upper Charles Trail are actively preparing for the additional 2.5 miles of paved trail, Phase 2 of the 3-phased rail trail development. In anticipation of the tentative Sept 24th completion date, we have identified some items to enhance and maintain the continuity of our beautiful trail.
Those items include:
- information kiosks
- dog cleanup stations
- bat boxes (to help control mosquito population)
- mile markers
- granite benches
Since the Trail’s Phase 1 public opening in June, 2007, many organizations, individuals, and local businesses have provided funding or resources for these types of enhancements along the Phase 1 section, which begins at the Sacred Heart trailhead on Main Street (Route 16) and extends to the area along Route 85 near the Route I-495 overpass.
Along this stretch, Trail users can rest on more than a dozen granite benches, while enjoying the scenic views and wildlife, as a result of tree swallow and bat box habitats. Dog owners are able to adhere to the ‘scoop the poop’ bylaw with the three dog clean up stations along the Trail, which provides plastic bags and trash barrels. Also, Trail information is posted at two kiosks.

The Trail wish list was created to provide a connection for the entire community including businesses, organizations, and individuals to get involved with this awesome community asset.
Please visit the trail wish list for more examples of completed Phase 1 projects and for more information on Trail Wish List items. Contact the Friends at our email: trail@milfordtrail.org or through the Milford Parks Department at 508-478-1110 extension 2650 with questions or new ideas.
